I hate to suggest this (since I've been a Mac Bigot since the very  
beginning) but your screen could be dying.

I suspect it's got a LOT of hours on it and may be thinking about  
crapping out in the near future.

I hope it's something really simple, like battery power or a minor  
firmware fix.

But based on my experience, it don't sound so good.

Please do let us know what the Genii about it, and about 42.
