 From 3rd party tests as well as my own comparisons the D700/D3 
advantage over the 5DMk2 is around 1/2 stop as far as noise is 
concerned; in any case definitely less than 1 stop. The noise has a 
slightly different character, which might also make a difference 
under some circumstances.

On the other hand, the Canon is 21 Mp and the Nikons 12. That also 
makes a difference, and on downsampling the Canon files the noise 
also goes down.

The D3x doesn't have as good noise performance as the D3, but better 
than the Sony. Overall the noise performance at high ISO isn't much 
different between the Canons and Nikons, especially when considering 
the Mp numbers.

There are a number of things about the D700 I prefer over the 5DMkII, 
but high ISO performance isn't one of them.
