There are drawbacks. At first glance, zoomed in 400 % it looks great.... but as you zoom back, the image loses what I suppose one would call microcontrast..... it just looks flat.... So I prefer the fringing that you don't notice in most practical applications.... over the de-fringed versions that you do.... : ) However... the new Adobe camera raw can do a really good job with rescuing overexposed areas of images.... I am extremely pleased with it in certain applications.... even though I still prefer the look from Canon's software for most. Either way.... I am saving more of my images as raw files.. and hanging on to some that I would have thrown out as forever hopeless not that long ago...
