Hi All:
Two Sunday's ago, my salesman at Adorama called me to tell me he had the G10
in stock. I had told him to call me when he had a black LX-3. Well, I went
downtown with my G9- all wrapped up in its original box and told him, I'd do
a G10 if (like my original G7 to G9 upgrade) he'd give me 50% off. He did.
While I was waiting, for him to get clearance for the trade, I looked at the
Panasonic LX3 (soon to be a D-Lux 4. I couldn't figure it out. I am a street
shooter and towards that end my fastest digital "rangefinder" like digicam
is the old Leica Digilux 1. I was hoping that the LX3 with an accessory
viewfinder would be comparable. Its is not. It is so slow that it makes me
fall asleep while it focuses and then the shutter goes off. On the other
hand, the G10 is somewhat faster than the G9 though not nearly the speed I
need for comfortable street shooting. I am, however, more satisfied with
this camera than I was with the G9 insofar as the one "unsung" area that no
one will talk about is the great difference between the G9 and the G10 when
it comes th viewfinder parallax. I use only the optical finder, very, very
rarely the LCD. The G9 needed all sorts of compensation and when I didn't
think to do it, my shots were all out of frame vertically. The G10 has
corrected this. I have enjoyed my limited testing with the camers and wait
now for the next version which I hope (probably in vain) will have an f2,
and no shutter lag at all. Basically I am satisfied with this digicam, and
that''s the first time I have said this in a long time. Bests: VRR
