Okay, I was flippant, and answered before I'd looked at the Drobo website again. I could swear that the last time I looked at them, at least a year ago I think, their product was a NAS (for Rabiner: Network Attached Storage) device. Now it looks as if they make little outboard RAID arrays in which the RAIDness is hidden away inside the box and the box presents the image of the resulting single disk as the thing you plug into your computer -- or, in an interesting factoring of functionality, plug into a little NASsifying box they also sell. Kind of cute. For some cranky, maybe-irrational, maybe subconsciously intuitive reason, I just don't trust 'em. Their makers seem to be trying too hard to make them cute, to appeal to the technically illiterate, and I find myself bristling the way I did when I encountered some of that nasty badly-made and indifferent-sounding but thoroughly metal-and-glass-styled (and pricey) Bang & Olufsen stereo equipment a couple-three decades ago. But maybe it's just curmudgeonliness on my part. Been known to happen.. -Jeff
