Subject: [Leica] So do I need Vuescan for B&W silver halide?

I'm scanning silver halide B&W film in a minolta Scan Dual II. I'm using 
Minolta's own software to scan at high quality in color slide mode, 16bit, 
save as Tiff, then transfer to photoshop where I play with curves etc.

What will Vuescan do to improve the quality of my final image?
