Hi Leo,
I use the 12 - 24 on my D300 - works lovely. Sharp lens, good flare  
control (better in the corners than the equivalent Canon wide zooms).  
Some distortion at the wide end but that is to be expected. Don't  
have a D3 so can't comment.
