Can you point to some examples?
I'd love to see what you're referring to.

I've actually found some of the HDR work quite intriguing.
Big difference, for me, between applying a series of actions or  
filters to make something look like something it's not;
and
using technology to achieve results not available before.
HDR in the digital realm seems akin to to water bath or 2 step  
developing - or other similar chemical ways of expanding dynamic  
range of the material being used
