Ah, but there's Jersey City, right across the river.  New York Magazine
had an article on "Hotels Under $200", and at the top of the list
was...  the Hyatt in Jersey City, a five-minute ride from the WTC train
stop.

Actually, when you check rack rates on the Hyatt site, they seem
unacceptably high;  but people routinely get rates below $200 via
Priceline.

And that's the fancy Hyatt.  There are other, cheaper hotels in the
neighborhood -- although not with the Hyatt's view of Manhattan.  Which
you can't get frim *in* Manhattan.  Just saying.

Which isn't to say a visit someplace else wouldn't be fun, but New York
needn't be crushingly expensive.
