Ok, this is a bit OT, but...

Not long ago, a Nikon technician revealed on Nikon's Japanese website that
D1 didn't have a 2.7MP sensor, but a 10.8MP sensor.  It combined data from
multiple pixels to obtain data for a single pixel and stored as a
2.7MPimage.  And that's the reason why D1 seemed to have better image
clarity
than its pixel count otherwise suggested.
