I went on a Boy Scout outing several years ago... Same deal... Nikonos, canoe, sleep on stones. What I worried about is that the black body and the hot sun = a problem. I kept a bucket of water back there, and kept the camera in the bucket to be sure. Use your Tee shirt to clean the lens every time you wish to shoot.
