For me the real question: Why?
Even the more subtle version feels "harder" than the original.
So I wonder, why do you want to "harden" this image?

I assume that you're experimenting with some software and asking for  
feedback; rather than preparing an image for a specific use.
Yet, without any particular intention or context ???
