I guess I should have been more descriptive. I too have used the  
Leki  Sierra with R and M (once even put my blad on it); and while it  
is better than nothing it does not offer the stability of a good  
Gitzo mono-pod. The difference, for me, rests with whether I'm going  
out to do photography = mono-pod; or going out for a walk, with a  
camera, = walking stick.
