Hi Luggers,

I now have two types of IR cut filters - heliopan and leica UV/IR cut
filters. On the Leica forum there is a lot of discussion about the
strength of different brands of filters, B&W being the strongest,
Leica the weakest and Heliopan in between.

By the light reflected it does seem that the heliopan reflects more
IR than the Leica filter and is therefore slightly stronger. Please
see:

FiltersW.jpg.html

Whether this makes any difference in real world pictures is a matter
of debate but the consensus is forming on the forum that for focal
lengths 21mm and wider Leica filters are more compatible with the
adjustments provided by the 1.012 firmware update when using coded
lenses and for narrower view lenses it doesn't matter so much which
IR cut filter is used.

Just my 2 cents additional for today.

Cheers
Howard (in Hong Kong and now going out to take pictures.)
