Recent talk on LUG about Modern Photography's test charts reminded me of one of my all- time favorite gadgets -- Modern Photography's Budget II. It's from the early '70s I believe. I dug mine out to share the memory. Subject movement relative to the camera being a major problem in macro work, the idea here was to tie the subject to the camera so there was no relative movement. The kit packed for traveling: http://tinyurl.com/ynjqwf Unfurled and ready for business: http://tinyurl.com/yqj9n6 A small part of the full kit in actual operation with my pet Pentax: http://tinyurl.com/2bneoa The view from the gadget as configured here: http://tinyurl.com/23jc97 The kit included a tiny reflecting surface for fill, several accessories to hold subjects from alligator clips to dissecting needle to split tubing for really delicate stuff, forceps and an arm to hold them in position. The kit shown here has some things I added over the years. If I remember correctly, it cost like $29.95. A pretty interesting gadget that worked pretty well, although I never made it exactly a regular tool. Happy Spring! Ric Carter http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/ricc/
