I am not regretting that I pulled the plug on the boob tube twenty years ago.......<< Perhaps if you tried to, as you put it "master new technologies", you would realize that TV is more than just "cable and networks". Surprise! You can even pick up PBS OTA (over the air). Picture quality is incredible. Content is quite amazing, and free. Then there's the whole world of videography, the technologies of which are closely aligned to that idiotic boob tube. It's probably useless for me to observe how camera angles are used, and all those other things like framing, close ups, piecing together scenes, and such. I know all those network cameramen, writers, directors, etc. are idiots and don't have any creative merit! They probably made it to the big leagues because their uncle was one of those nefarious network moguls. And studying those silly and useless commercials is a complete waste of time. After all, they have absolutely no impact on society and say nothing about people and persuasive tactics. Not to belabor the point, because, shucks, all is vanity and striving after the wind, but who needs to understand new technologies like codec's and video compression algorithms? I'm sure an understanding of things like the differences between PAL, SEACAM and NTSC are folly. And programs like Premiere and Final Cut are so simple a cave man could use them. You probably think putting together quality DVD -- complete with raster imaging -- or streaming video on the web is as simple as picking up a video camera from Best Buy. Just like real photography requires nothing more than picking up a P&S. But, hey, the video and the boob tube are insignificant to society. They are meaningless and have no future. I'm happy to hear you're saving $50 bucks a month. DaveR
