As you guessed, battery life isn't/can't be as good as a Canon 
1-series. I don't use Canon 1 series, mostly due to size issues.

For the Canon 5D I just buy more batteries, which are about $15 here 
for higher capacity than the originals. Unfortunately, I doubt that 
Leica compatible ones will be available from the same supplier.

As battery life is tied to firmware issues, I think I should keep 
quiet until production models are available. I had no issues with 
battery life, and I'm sure it will only get better.
