When I go out and dabble I find that the longer the lens (2x with 400 telyt my longest possibility) in addition to the movement and trying to find the critter through the tunnel - Increasing the distance seems to put more stuff than just heat waves (foliage, etc.) between me and the subject. Even with large critters, like deer , they all seek cover very well.
