Personally - I find the "what" irrelevant. Had we seen that he was  
studying anatomy (or whatever) the specificity may have detracted  
from the universal strength of the "all studies" quality of the  
image. No doubt that if this were part of a photo essay on medical  
students, or a portrait of doctor or intern - the specificity would  
have merit. However, as a stand alone image the universal appeal wins  
in my book.
