Subject: [Leica] walking in the woods with my father

A few weeks ago my father called me to say that the access road to the
forrest where I spent much of my youth had been blocked off and that in
a few years the road would be taken over by undergrowth and trees and
the place, as we knew it, would vanish. He suggested that I come to New
Jersey and we would walk the entire road one last time. I hadn't been
there in twenty years, but my mind retained a map of every twist and
turn in minute detail.

This is the place where my father taught me to light a fire without any
matches, how to make a compass with a sewing needle, how to find north
in a swamp on an overcast day, how to build an emergency shelter, and,
how to use a camera.

We saw mink, snakes, amphibians, a pair of deer, and maybe a little bit
back in time.

But, if I've done this properly, you shouldn't need to know any of that
to enjoy these photographs.
