Daniel:

It'll be great for her. It has a mirror prism which is darker than the 
glass prism in my isDS.  You and I will notice it but the kids don't.

I don't have the kit lens but have heard disparaging remarks about it 
regarding very large prints.  My daughter and husband love theirs with 
kit lens, and so far have shot hundreds of photos bat have made hardly 
any prints, and those have been less than 8x10 inches.
