The lens is not made by Leica but produced by Panasonic or a third party in
Japan. Many even doubt if it is a original Leica design. Some believe it is
a slightly redesigned Olympus lens (ZD 2.8-3.5/14-54mm). The are no hints at
Leica's website if they will sell it under their name, too. But I wouldn't
exclude it. Maybe Leica will release it at Photokina together with the
M-digital (the L1 is anyway not expected in the shops before). All that was
communicated for now was a commitment to further cooperation between Leica
and Panasonic.
