His checkbook was stuffed in the sound hole. No one else in the bank was fazed.....They simply gave me a look that said "You're not from around here are you Bud?" Then in the early 80's I was the janitor for the Presbyterian church on University ($20 a week...I was a charity case) Anyway, after cleaning the church my daughter and I would head down to Telegraph, hit the Bagel Works, comic stores and a couple of good bookstores. It like Shattuck was a different world for this naive Midwesterner. Then I experienced Pacific Ave. in Santa Cruz......."Welcome to the Twilight Zone"
