When Leica fixed mine, I may have been told the ring had a replacement made from metal or from plastic.... I forget. It went to Germany for repair..... Leica USA and Sherry could not repair it here..... I can not get to Erwin's site, but I do remember the 3rd and 4th versions to be the same optical formula. Would someone please check for me? I have personal experience with the plastic iris ring..... I would never own a lens like that again, same formula or not! Lastly, the ASPH is a fabulous lens. You will not be sorry. Frank Filippone red735i@earthlink.net huh? I have what I think is the 4th version but aperture adjustment seems to be metal and it even has the lens serial number on it.
