Not sure whether or not you can find an equivalent in AU land but in the 
U.S. the "Home Depot" stores sell rubber end-caps for PCV pipes, and the 
Fernco "Quik-Cap" model QC-101 (1 and 1/2" inch diameter) fits snugly over 
the current 50/2 Summicron-M lens.  It doesn't pop off and the soft rubber 
protects the lens (front *and* a large section of the sides) against bumps.  
It's a huge improvement over the stock cap (though a little bulkier) and 
costs about USD$2.00.
