We have done the taking apart and cleaning the wine barrel bits, and last weekend we finished making the biscuit joints and were gluing the staves back into drums. The whole set is at: http://www.dragonsgate.net/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=3100 Terry invented making shorter practice drums FPD (Funky Practice Drum) out of the ends of the barrels. You can see how short the pieces are: http://www.dragonsgate.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5248 Karisu making sure all the pieces are there. You have to label carefully and make sure the biscuit joints fit together. There is dust everywhere so protective gears are advisable: http://www.dragonsgate.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5249 Fitting the FPD together. My favorite shot for the composition: http://www.dragonsgate.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5250 Fast forward to Karisu's drum, which is almost finished. You need one person to mix the glue goop, 2 people to put the glue on the pieces and one person to put the pieces together. The team must work fast since the glue is very strong and dry very fast. http://www.dragonsgate.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5251 Terry trying to keep the drum as drum shape while Peter putting the last piece in. Terry's odd expression came from the discovery that glue is everywhere and in this case, getting onto his underarm. http://www.dragonsgate.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5252 Peter starting on my drum. I hurried and got the camera: http://www.dragonsgate.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5253 Here is me and the helpers working on my drum. Karisu took this picture. http://www.dragonsgate.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5254 The 3 finished drums. Next will be hours and hours of sanding to make everything nice and smooth, before we will put on the drumheads. http://www.dragonsgate.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5255 // richard (This email is for mailing lists.
