This is quite true.  The only reason to use an acid fix is to kill the
developer quickly.  Developers that are low energy (and low pH) like diluted
Xtol do not require instant quenching like Rodinal, TMax and the various D76
derivatives.  If your developing time exceeds 8 minutes, a water stop is all
that is needed.
