Focus shift exists on most lenses. The work-around has already been given
on the LUG, but to re-iterate:

First, wait for the negative to "pop" if you are not using a two-glass
carrier. (Slides seem more subject to popping, especially Kodachromes.)

Second, use a grain focuser and focus wide-open.

Third, stop down to the working aperture and check the focus.

That should do it. I a 40mm Focatar on my V-35 and Apo-Rodagons on my
Beseler 23C, and almost never have a focusing problem.
