Not Your Usual Leica

The Leica camera company has donated one of its M7 cameras with the
production number of 3,000,000 to Sebasti?o Salgado, 61, the Paris-
based Brazilian photographer, to honor his work on humanitarian and
environmental themes. At a ceremony in Paris on Wednesday, Leica also
endorsed Mr. Salgado's decision to auction the camera, three lenses
and an aluminum case to raise money for the Instituto Terra, a
reforestation project in Brazil initiated by Mr. Salgado and wife,
Llia Wanick Salgado. The auction will be held at Leica's store in
Vienna on Nov. 5. ALAN RIDING
