i'm pretty much an ignoramus when it comes to using my scanner for  
anything beyond simple scanning.  i get good results, especially for  
posting to the web, but i think sometimes there's even more i could  
tease out of a negative if i knew what i were doing.  for instance, i  
don't really know what's the difference between 8-bit and 14-bit scan  
depth, or what's the advantage of multi sample scanning, or what are  
the relative advantages of nikon scan and vuescan.

i'm wondering if there's a book or anything that any of my esteemed  
LUG compatriots might recommend--or maybe, egad, a website.
