Some leaders are used to project a field chart for a given film format, like Academy 1:85 / 1:66, Super35, etc. This enables the projectionist to properly adjust the projection mask, the mask of the actual projection screen, check focus etc. A reel may be assembled as followed: At the head (start) of a roll of film usually consists of some blank leader, so the projectionist has some extra material to work with when he threads the projector. This may be followed by a field chart for a particular film format (Academy, S35 etc). This field chart usually contains a focus target. Then you may get the countdown leader with the sync pop. Finally you get your footage. Visual effects footage may contain a slate with information pertaining to the footage and color reference patches. Usually these slates run for 50 frames or so and are at the head of the footage. feli ________________________________________________________ feli2@earthlink.net 2 + 2 = 4 www.elanphotos.com no archive
