Daniel: Revisiting my remarks:

It occurred to me that *I* might be responding more viscerally to your
"blues" shots, and if that's the case, it is more than a matter of the
"beauty in the eye of THIS beholder!"  I think the "technique," though I
dislike using the word, evident in the "blues" shots, the close focus,
the grain, the lighting, the framing, positioning from below, etc, gives
them a strength of character that I find compelling.

And, as I view them, I am learning (re-learning) some basics.  Thanks!!
