It is difficult to determine if the book and the cleansing agent are compatible...it would be a shame to wash the print off the vellum cover of a "Kelmscott Chaucer!" I would be extremely cautious about cleansing books unless one really knows what she or he is doing. He explained that due to handling - bacteria and dirt on the covers contribute to damage thus the application of alcohol as a cleaning and sterilising agent. In the tropics where I live - storing books in zip lock bags would be risky due to mold etc Sincerely Joseph L / Singapore
