I never cease to be amazed at those who mourn the death of a company like Leitz/Leica. Sure' it will be a sad day, but it was sad when Zeiss quit making cameras too, and the German Voigtlander, and Kodak, and all the rest. Then again I haven't bought anything new from them in,... let me think now ... it was my R3, I think, no, the last thing I bought new was my 135 mm R lens, that was more than 20 years ago, and only because KEH was closing out the old style. Everything else has been purchased used. So I carry the camera but do the company no good at all, except to help people buying new equipment raise the money to do so. Those who mourn the death of leitz should have been mourning for some time now -- the company that made my M3, M2, even the CL and R3, is long gone, changed owners at least once, or is it twice? Management is changed, workers are changed, the site and factory is changed. Materials have changed, business plan is changed. How does the old saw go: My brother changed the blade and I replaced the handle, but it's still our father's axe? That's what we got here. The current Leitz is about as "real" as the current Voigtlander. As to those who worry about advances in optics and so forth, I'll put images from my old lenses up against yours any day -- they ALL damn good, the new ones are just a little bit gooder. go take pictures folks, ur stressing out over things you can't change anyway. charles trentelman
