Hi Bill,
This may sound strange, but my first reaction was.... "This doesn't have the 
same kind of snap contrast look to it" that you generally have with your 
subjects?  Did you soup the film or scan the neg. differently?

It's quite possible the available light was just that..."flat with little 
snap to it."   Not a big deal It's just the look. As the subject is 
interesting, certainly with the caption  ..... however? ;-) Bending your 
knees slightly more than you have, that is unless you can't. ;-) I think 
would've increased subject impact therefore making it a stronger 
composition?

Getting down lower might also have blown the shot because the subject 
could've objected about taking his picture?
