The camera needs to know the focal length of the lens in order to 
dial in the right amount of correction. If Minolta had been smart, 
they'd have implemented a manual lens data inputter like on the new 
Nikon F6. But they ... for some reason... want to sell more AF lenses 
and so they made it so that it only works on lenses that transmit FL 
data.
