When you make a camera that sells a few 10K units a month, then try a retro job, tool up a completely new camera, where the entire production run is a few thousand units of a 50 year old camera, using obsolete (film) media, what does any rational manager expect? They took quite a bath on it when the S3 didn't sell as much as they liked.
