Subject: [Leica] New Zeiss lenses compared against Leica

Re prices for the ZM lenses, Hasselblad-USA sent price lists to their
dealers in late November. Classic Connection (www.classicconnection.com)
posted these prices on their website. I have them posted below with current
B&H Leica prices for comparison. They are higher than Japanese prices -
maybe a hedge against the continuing decline in the value of the dollar. It
remains to be seen whether B&H, Adorama, etc. will offer these lenses at
discounted prices. But even at the prices listed for the four lenses about
to be released, 25 & 28 are about half the price of a comparable Leica, the
35 is less than 60% Leica, & the 50 is less than 70% Leica - & all this is
before Leica January price increase, announced but to be determined.

25/2.8 = $1152 (Leica = $2295)
28/2.8 = $1042 (Leica = $1995 for 24/2.8)
35/2.0 = $1042 (Leica = $1795 - $1950)
50/2.0 = $ 824 (Leica = $1195)
