Early and late black chrome finishes are on top of brass top plates:

Last few M4s, M5, M4-2, most M4-P (twin external sync), the last few
production M6TLLs, limited edition last M6TTLs, current M7

Most later (but not current) black chrome cameras have zinc top plates:

late M4-P (single sync & flush windows), M6, M6TTL (virtually all),
early M7

Black paint is always on top of brass.

Silver chrome is the same as listed above for black chrome.

Special editions are another matter again.
