Thanks to all that have made suggestions, but maybe I was too vague; the 
problem is that the self-timer lever acts like it's not connected to 
anything. It swings freely throughout it's full travel with no resistance or 
noise whatsoever save for the spring-loaded locking button which seems to 
operate correctly.  I'm not averse to attempting to repair this myself( over 
the last few months I've almost completely overhauled my IIc--one problem at 
a time), I just don't want to spend a couple of days searching for some 
unknown spring that attempted to attain a low-earth orbit simply because I 
didn't know to expect it.

Again, any suggestions will be appreciated,
