He says that while the extender was "designed for specific use" with the Apo-Tely- R 280/2.8 to transform it into a 400mm/f4 Leica "does guarantee excellent results'' with following other Leica-R lenses: the Macro-Elmar R 100mm/f4, the Elmar-R 180mm/f.2.8, the Telyt-R 400m/f6.8 and the Telyt-R 800mm/f6.3. The 800mm, Sartorius notes, would be transformed into a 1120mm/f8.8. He also says that Leica's illustrated brochures guarantee that if the extender is used with the Apo lenses, there would be "absolutely no loss in their extraordinary optical performance.'' -- bob cole
