The Nikon doesn't do well with black/white? I think this person is handing
you a line.

I have a Nikon SCS 5000ED and it scans black and white and color perfectly.
I actually prefer the Nikon over the Minolta, because it uses LEDs as its
light source, which results in very sharp scans. Minolta uses florescent
bulbs,
which are more diffuse. It like the difference between a condenser and
diffusion
enlarger. The LEDs also have a longer lifespan and are probably more stable.

Take a look at the pics on my site, they were all scanned with the Nikon.
I used to have a Minolta.
