In 1953 I appeared at the US District Court in Newark, NJ (the nearest court
to Ft. Monmouth) for my swearing-in ceremony. The judge mumbled the
formalities with his nose buried in his book. When he came to the question,
"are you willing to defend the United States in time of war?" he looked up,
saw that I was in uniform, and said, "you obviously are; that will be all.
Next!"
