Everyone on the street was ooo-ing and ahhh-ing, while they jostled one another and tried to capture a glimpse of the president. Just then, several of the Secret Service war wagons (the big black Chevy Suburbans) pulled across the road on either side of 41's limo and dropped their rear and side windows, with all the hardware poking out (similar to Keith's image, but with the barrels actually sticking out of the windows; not pointed at anything in particular, but making their presence known). Dunno what sort of threat the Secret Service guys were expecting, but in that instant the only sounds we heard in the deafening silence was the crackle of police radios and the distant traffic elsewhere in the city. Every pedestrian around me was rooted to the spot, trying to appear the size of a fly or smaller. Once 41 was hustled into the hotel, the war wagons sealed back up and cops told everyone to move along. Now I try to go the opposite direction whenever I see a large motorcade coming in our region.
