Hi Kit and others,

I'm always surprised at how many folks seem to have this thing about keeping
their Leica looking like it just came off the assembly line in Solms.

I get a new body the first thing is, rip all the wrapping off, dump the
boxes strip off the "saving from scratches plastic" thingies, get it loaded
and start shooting as quick as I can. Man I want that puppy in hand and
functioning I don't buy them to look pretty forever.

That does not mean they are not taken care of. After all, I make my living
from functioning cameras not pretty looking cameras with slippery plastic
things that take away the feel in hand, it drives me crazy. It makes them
feel like you just got it as a prize from a popcorn box. ;-)

Besides what do some of you do to your cameras that you want to have all
these protective wrappings intact? I mean little paddings around the neck
strap eyelets to keep them from getting scratched, jeeeeesh give me a break.

And the plastic on the base plate? hell it's almost the first thing to go!
:-) Or the whole base plate is gone and on goes a Tom Abrahamsson
RapidWinder for the rest of the camera's life.

The only reason I responded to this topic is because of an error in removing
the plastic from the bottom of an M7 base plate I found in the equipment
cabinet earlier today. :-)

I suppose I must have whipped the base plate off, threw it in the cabinet
and attached the RapidWinder. And while looking for something else today I
saw a base plate with plastic cover and exclaimed, "What the hell is that
doing on there?" Picked it up, ripped it away into the garbage. :-) Aahhh
that felt good! ;-)

Now it feels clean and ready to use. :-) Well sometime down the road when I
take the RapidWinder off.

See it isn't hard, rip and turf, as it's served it's purpose from factory to
you. :-)

ted
