I wouldn't turn away from them for a minute as I still cherish them like my own children, but they are too old to leap up and catch Frisbees, not interested in harassing the cats any more, and aren't in any shape to go swimming after a fallen duck (not that I would shoot a duck). At some point, I'm going to have to say "The King is dead...." and stop buying film. Right now, digital doesn't work for me for low available light shooting or selective DOF shooting. But a 1-gigabyte chip costs less than I paid for 128Kb 20 years ago, and silicon prices are still dropping. At some point film and film scanning will be a hobby for purists. Verichrome Pan is gone, Panatomic X is gone, APX 25 is gone, even T400CN is gone. And now Mark Rabiner is saying "I love electronic viewfinders". His words are prophetic. Even the most loyal Leica disciple is looking over the fence, and cannot dispute what he sees. He likes it. Having my images sitting in the form of electrons in a chip is still unsettling. And the images always seem to look better on the LCD than on my screen. But there's an improvement every month in the digicam world. No more film cameras for me [that doesn't mean I'll stop using them...it means I'll stop buying them!]. Before I'm Ted's age, there'll be a digital M with a full-sized sensor. I'll start saving now while still trying to improve what I can do on film. Jeffery Smith New Orleans, LA
