I know several of you have the Nikon LS4000 scanner.  I found - through 
another list - a very good tutorial by John Shaw that shows you how to set 
up the Nikon preferences for the best scans.  It's almost exactly what I 
was doing anyway, but it helps to have it all printed out. Here it is:
