I would normally say that it serves your ass right for dealing with paypal.

Too many of my friends have been screwed by paypal for me to even think
of it.

They have lawyers that will make mincemeat of you.  Take your losses
and declare them on your tax returns this year.  It is not worth the grief
to get back a few thousand dollars.  They are bigger than you and will
eat you alive.
