I mainly use the 24A, 35/1.4A and 50/1 and they are very flare
resistant. Removing the shade reduces the bulk of the lens considerably
and makes it easier to carry three cameras in a small package. I first
got the idea from watching DAH at work and I haven't gone back.

Some lenses, like my 50/2, need all the shade they can get but they are
getting to be the exception in the M lens line-up.
