Er, I don't think so Doug.

Instead I think you mean the shot of a Lockheed Tri-Star during
flight, taken by an automated camera mounted in the tail, on the
cover of NGS Mag Aug 1977.  There's also another shot inside
the mag taken at night of the same plane as it comes in to land
(on p.208).

The most unorthodox NGS  Mag cover I can think of is an aerial shot
in the 1960s of the US Pacific fleet.  Very gung-ho & Gun Boat
Diplomacy!
